Based on the California Department of Education's 2003 Academic Performance Index (API) scores, Pacific Grove Unified School District (Pacific Grove High School, Pacific Grove Middle School, Robert Down Elementary School, and Forest Grove Elementary School) is ranked overall as the highest of all public schools on the Monterey Peninsula.
